ABOUT THE ARTIST
Michael Bruza was born in the suburbs of Michigan, just 30 minutes from Detroit. After attending art school at CCS, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue his interest in TV and film. He was showing his pop-art style paintings and prints in galleries throughout LA when he landed a TV series that would change his life and career forever.
Becoming Iconic
Michael and his brother’s, Scott and Gregg, worked on the hit show FRIENDS and this is when Michael created the iconic “Central Perk” logo. He also created other graphics and paintings featured on the back wall of the coffee shop set. His unique art style helped to establish the quirky, playful look that this set was known for. He went on to create art for many other shows such as Six Feet Under, Melrose Place and the film Murder in the First (Kevin Bacon). He also worked for Netflix where he created the famous profile icons. Yes, the square smiley face.
Michael went on to win an EMMY AWARD™ for his designs that are known worldwide. He is now focusing on this new series just for his hometown of Detroit, called
1701 Detroit Authentic™
In 1701 Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac founded the site that would become the City of Detroit. The city would go on to become the heart of the American automotive industry, earning the name the “Motor City”, and at one time offering the most manufacturing jobs in the world.
It is this history that gives Detroit character and it is this character that makes Detroit Authentic. Wish Antoine could see us now.
